about us

bb is a nashville based activity community committed to baby-wearing, outdoor activities. we began with some women from a hypnobabies class through nine months and beyond that wanted to get some exercise after having had our little ones. we began inviting other women and now have a regular group that comes each week at least once, sometimes more.

we believe that mamas should be able to take their little ones anywhere they go. most of us are still nursing and know the importance of having our children close to us. we have moms carrying babies from two months up to 18+ months (on their back).

happy hiking!

Sleepless Nights Managed

This may seem simple, but I came up with a new way to help with sleep at night. Our 5.5 little nursling is still up pretty regularly at night. I did have a clock by my bed and every time she woke I would see the time. UUUGGG! Only one hour has passed?!

This was driving me crazy. I accidentally stumbled upon a new concept. Our clock has a sound machine (sound machines are a must-have in every sleeping person's room in our home). I plugged it back in after being out of town right before we were headed to bed, so it was set to 12:00. Instead of seeing the time each time I woke, I saw how many hours I had slept. It was a definitely a more positive way to look at it... and I had no idea what time it was.

So I've done this two nights in a row and it is making a huge difference (even when she woke up every hour a few times last night). So each night, I have set the clock to 12:00 and just gone with it. When I wake up and it says 8:59, I know I have slept (even if not consecutively) almost 9 hours!

Happy Hiking!

Kate: I am sooo excited about this group! Thanks, ladies, for being a part of my "village". Kate (mama of Henry, Elijah and Charlotte)

Diaper Inserts

Joan sent out an email about inserts... She wrote:
Check your baby blankets. Flannel receiving blankets can be folded and used as inserts or doublers. What's nice about them is that they don't tend to retain odors like other fibers or inserts where the layers are sewn together. Also, microfleece is a popular material for baby blankets. Cut one up for liners.

Yesterday I bought 12 microfiber rags in Target's auto department. They're 14" x 14" and fold perfectly into a pocket diaper. $8.73 (with tax), so about $0.73 a piece! I put one with a thin hemp liner into her diaper this AM to see how it works. MUCH thinner and I think it's going to work!

Update to come!

Words Heard On The Trail

"You're inspiring."

Liz: I remember hearing “snack break” from that understanding gentleman when Kate and I were nursing our babes. Too funny!

Lindsay: As we paraded down Ganier Ridge, I heard a lady say, “Wow! I wish I had hiked with my babies.”
