Check your baby blankets. Flannel receiving blankets can be folded and used as inserts or doublers. What's nice about them is that they don't tend to retain odors like other fibers or inserts where the layers are sewn together. Also, microfleece is a popular material for baby blankets. Cut one up for liners.
Yesterday I bought 12 microfiber rags in Target's auto department. They're 14" x 14" and fold perfectly into a pocket diaper. $8.73 (with tax), so about $0.73 a piece! I put one with a thin hemp liner into her diaper this AM to see how it works. MUCH thinner and I think it's going to work!
