DYOS: Defining You Own Success in breastfeeding

You are invited to attend the inaugural meeting of the Nashville DYOS group! This is a group dedicated to women and babies who have had difficulties with breastfeeding beyond "typical" issues. Please, invite all your acquaintances who would also benefit from this group.

Maybe you had breast surgery, no breast growth, breast hypoplasia, PCOS/infertility, "no milk" or some other breastfeeding complication that was difficult, if at all, to overcome. Maybe baby had growth delays or a physical complication such as Down Syndrome, cleft palate, prematurity or PKU. Did you have to mix pumping with breastfeedings for a long time, exclusively pump, use donor milk or at-breast supplementer tubes?

This is the group for you!

Come meet with other mamas who have "been there" and others who are in the middle of it all. You will be supported by a Lactation Consultant with experience in BFAR, induced/relactation, PCOS, infertility, and babies with anatomical/developmental conditions which make breastfeeding a challenge. Learn about how you can improve your own nursing relationship or make plans for the next baby. Share your story with us and others who can support you and learn from you!

The group will meet Tuesday, August 31st from 1-2:30PM at 9 Months & Beyond, LLC located at 2402 Felts Avenue, Nashville 37211 in the Berry Hill District near 100 Oaks Mall.

RSVP to let me know you are coming! I look forward to meeting you and your babies (they are always welcome). This first meeting is free of charge. kate@ninemonthsandbeyond.com

week of august 22, 2010

sorry for the late post!

monday, august 23, 9 AM-11 AM
a few mamas with bambinos have been meeting on mondays at 9 AM for time at the zoo. this does require a membership or pay for admission, although if you let us know in advance, we should be able to get any nonmembers in with the multiple Members + Guest options. please email bambinobrigade@gmail.com if you plan to come so we can match memberships with guests. we meet at the gate at 9 AM and usually stay until about 11 AM. we do not usually bring lunch.

wednesday, august 25

*7:30 AM*
fast-paced, early morning hike.
to beat the heat, some mamas will be hiking at 7:30 AM. the group is rather small and there's a chance you could be the only one. this will be a fast-paced hike. usually finished close to 9 AM.

*9:30 AM*
we have multiple options for hikes. some take south lake trail for shorter legs, while others are trucking up ganier and coming back south lake. whatever your desire, most likely we will have someone going that hike. PLEASE BRING PLENTY OF WATER. this heat is really intense and your and your baby's safety is critical to me! usually finished around 11:30 AM. some meet for lunch after, so feel free to join.

friday, august 27, 9:30 AM-11:30 AM
9:30 AM
ellington agricultural center
**we are changing our meeting location, as we are outgrowing the parking lot at the iris garden. come up the hill from the iris garden entrance and park anywhere around the grounds up there. there are multiple parking options. we will meet by the garden, behind the museum. we will have a short hike, go see the horses and then eat lunch right by the fish pond (it's at the deck area). call if you get lost: 587-0630.

our rain policy is hike as long as there is no thunder or lightening!

as a seed to consider: as the weather cools, we will be changing our friday fun days from a 9:30 AM meet-up to a 3:30 PM meet-up. we have many friends that have started school this week and we send love and peace to them in this new journey (for them and family). we want to continuing seeing these friends, so this change on fridays will be a great addition to the brigade! also, it has been recommended that one friday a month we can all go out to supper together as a group after our friday hike. more information to come over the next few weeks!

*window clings
window clings are IN! they look amazing. if you have already paid $5, I will get you one when I see you. otherwise, we are selling them for $5 right now!
5" x 3", rectangular clear cling, white ink

expecting mamas

one thing that bambino brigade is IS a community of caregivers, banned together to support on another in the many opportunities of being with children and having children. one of our mamas, Kacy, is due to have Theo on September 22. we all know that means he could come at or around that time, or possibly weeks earlier or later :)

remember what it was like just before and just after having your little one?! what did you need? how did you feel? man, I wish I had this community THEN! so let's do our best to help out another mama that surely could use it!

we would like to set up a schedule to bring food to the Ellis family. they are not picky, but do not like raw onions or sweet potatoes and do not eat meat unless it's USDA Certified Organic, so vegetarian meals are great! if you would like to volunteer to watch little Felicity for mama, that would be a great help, too. if you are interested, email bambinobrigade@gmail.com.

something to consider

when bambino brigade began its first hikes on wednesdays last July, we decided to meet at 9:30 AM so all the mamas with preschoolers could drop off then come. well... now, most of those mamas now have school-attending children and are dropping them off at 8 AM. that being said, to accommodate the most families, we are considering changing out wednesday morning hike from 9:30 AM to 8:20 AM, with intentions of leaving no later than 8:30 AM.

then, for the same reasons, we are considering changing our friday hike from 9:30 AM to 3:30 PM, so the school kids can still be a part of this beloved community they have helped to build. this hike would last about an hour and a half and may be followed by a monthly family-out-to-eat meet up.

please send your thoughts and comments to bambinobrigade@gmail.com.

hikes are on unless thunder and lightning are present!

happy hiking!
