I have a feeling we will have a large group this week, with some new faces and a few that haven't been in a while! I am super pumped! Come ready to hike. If we need to break-off into separate groups for new members, we will definitely do so. No one ever hikes alone!

warner park nature center (off hwy 100)
go south on hwy 100 and just past old hickory boulevard, the entrance will be on the left. come to the left once in the park and we will meet in front of the nature center. we will hike about 3/4 miles then play in the 'mud pit.' feel free to bring a lunch and stay for a picnic.

hike report - wednesday, feb 24

I missed the hike today, but here is the report from one of our brigaders:

We had a wonderful turnout today, in spite of the cold! A quick headcount showed about ten moms and eleven babes (as one of our members wears two). For those who hiked both Ganier and South Lake trails, we hiked 3.5 miles today. We saw many new faces and several returning ones as well. About halfway through the hike, the snow flurries really picked up, giving us a beautiful vista. While it was certainly chilly, we all stayed warm with mommy-modified jackets and well bundled babes. It was wonderful to see so many hikers, and we hope to continue to see everyone again on future hikes!

I feel a little fooled by all this amazing weather since our Wednesday hiking day calls for weather back in the low 30s... but at least it won't feel like 19 (like it did last week).

hike report - friday, february 19, 2010

Sorry for the delayed hike report from last week! we have had a few under the weather around here!

Friday Fun Day this week had 6 mamas and 12 kiddos. We hiked about 3/4 of a mile, leaving from the Warner Nature Center. We had to of our older olders help one of the younger olders! It was so precious. We made our way back to the Mud Pit, as I choose to call it, and the kids proceeded to play for a good hour or so. Then a few of us had a quick little picnic by the Nature Center. We all left pretty dirty, but it was well worth the fun!

hike report - wednesday, feb 17

wonderful hike today. we had 3 mamas and 4 kiddos. one of our Brigaders said at the beginning of our hike (with the aid of her nifty iPhone, I might add), that it felt like 19! 19!!! Wow!

we did 2.97 miles in about 1.5 hours. along the way, we had some honking geese, about 9 deer, and lots of snow and ice. the trails were safer than the road, no doubt. we had some great conversation and some laughs! we missed those that did not get a chance to join us, but the hike was definitely a good one!

gloves, headbands, coats with holes for little-people heads... we were complimented all along the way! I can say, it feels great to be out there, but to also have people tell you how amazing you are for the hike and life we choose is even more rewarding.

*FRIDAY FEB. 19, 2010*

We will be meeting at Warner Park Nature Center, Friday, February 19, 2010 at 9:30 AM.

We will do a 3/4 mile hike, play in the mud pit (make sure to bring water resistant shoes and a change of clothes), then have a little lunch (or snack - whatever you prefer to bring!).

We are seeing better results with a *9:30 AM* time, so keep it on your calendar. The location will change depending on the week, but the time will be consistent!

hike report - wednesday, feb 10

we hiked about 2.71 miles in about 1 hour today. the trails were icy and it was COLD! babies and mamas alike were bundled to the max - from blankets wrapped around babies, to mama-altered coats to fit child inside.

we had 5 mamas, 6 kiddos (as one of our brigaders wears 2!). we began with ganier ridge, but after just a short trek up the hill, decided to come back down, as it was slippery - not to mention the wind was pretty intense going up that ridge.

wish we could have done more, as our minimum distance is usually 3 miles, but we will just have to wait for the warmer weather.

we missed those of you that could not make it today - hope to see you all next week - it's supposed to be closer to 40 next week.

lastly, we are thinking of planing a FAMILY POTLUCK PICNIC sometime in March, so be thinking about that. we will work to get it past most people's spring break times... email me if a time is just not good for your family. it will most likely be on a sunday afternoon at one of the parks!
